We Are Farming Minds Hereford Racecourse Charity Day

27 November 2024

In aid of We Are Farming Minds (WAFM)/Midlands Air Ambulance/Injured Jockeys’ Fund

No fewer than SEVEN Herefordshire farmers took their own lives in 2023 alone.

This terrifying statistic underlines the fact that there is a mental health crisis in the agricultural community, and it is right on our doorstep. Because the NHS is overwhelmed, charities are forced to fill the breach as best they can.

Tragically, Richard Layton, who ran Dewdales Hope Farm in Bodenham, near Leominster, was one of those farmers. He was just 53 when he took his own life in March last year, following a lengthy mental health battle.

In order to raise money, his family and friends have organised spectacular afternoon’s sport in the company of star guests at Hereford Race Course on November 27th 2024

There will be extraordinary auction prizes, a world-class raffle, expert tipsters plus the opportunity to sponsor a race and present the prizes of winning connections.

It’s a truly fantastic way to start your Christmas festivities!

The Becket Reliquary at Hereford Cathedral

15 November 2024 -16 November 2024

Hereford Cathedral invites the public to view one of its treasures, the enamelled reliquary of St. Thomas Becket which will be on display in the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library Museum on Friday, 15th and Saturday, 16th November.

Made in Limoges around 1200-1210, just decades after Becket's martyrdom, the reliquary would originally have had a relic of the saint himself, and been placed on the altar within Hereford Cathedral.

The reliquary is not normally on public display but, for one weekend only, it will be available to view.  On Friday evening the Cathedral will be open for a talk on this historic artefact's fascinating history.  Tickets are £12 and include a glass of wine and nibbles to enjoy in the Cathedral café.  Advanced booking essential via the cathedral's website. www.herefordcathedral.org or by calling 01432 374225

Make a weekend of it and stay at Castle House which is just a few minutes' walk from the Cathedral
